All of our non-swimmers are taught in our teaching pool, where we can safely teach water confidence skills and begin to teach basic swimming skills.
Our Octopus classes all take place in our teaching pool, usually with an instructor in the water, however, by the time a child reaches Octopus 3, the instructor may teach from the poolside, if appropriate.
These swimming lessons are for any child over 3 years old who cannot swim. Great for children who have had some swimming experience but no formal lessons. Here you will learn to put your face in the water, blow bubbles, kick with floats on your front and back using noodles or floats.
These lessons are for children who have achieved Octopus 1; they are confident in putting their face in the water and are able to kick 5 metres on their front and back with floats.
In these classes they will learn to push and glide on their front and back without floats and paddle 2 metres on their front and back unaided, along with other water confidence skills, such as submerging to pick up objects.
These lessons are for children who have achieved Octopus 2 and are now ready to start learning strokes and attempting to swim unaided on their fronts and backs without floats or the support of the swimming teacher.
In these classes they will learn to jump in, push and glide and swim for 5 metres, perform a star float for 3 seconds, begin to learn breaststroke and dolphin leg kick.
